Propagation

A plant will have many canes depending on its age. A cane is an individual stem of a blueberry bush. A new young cane is also referred to as a whip.

The new canes or whips are ideal for propagating new plants from hardwood or softwood cuttings.

The light green canes you see in these photos are from last years growth, they could be taken as hardwood cuttings in mid-March in Kentucky, when the plant is just starting to get new leaves.
